The dangers of rawhide

🐾 We adore our dogs, so we want to treat them, and while Rawhide chews may seem like a harmless treat, they carry hidden risks that dog owners often overlook.

Despite their popularity, rawhide is far from the natural chew it claims to be. These chews are by-products of the leather industry, treated with harsh chemicals like formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide to prevent rotting.

⚠️ Even worse, rawhide can pose serious health threats. Dogs often swallow large chunks, leading to choking or dangerous intestinal blockages that might require surgery. And while many believe rawhide aids in dental health, this is a myth. Once softened by saliva, it does little to scrape plaque and becomes more of a hazard than a benefit.

🦴 For safer alternatives, try raw recreational bones, which naturally clean teeth, or opt for dehydrated meat products like bully sticks. These are easier to digest and reduce the risk of blockages. If dental chews are your choice, be sure to select natural, non-toxic options to support your dog’s overall health without unnecessary risks.
